Truth: The Law of Gravity
Truth: Gravity keeps my feet on the ground.
Truth: Gravity pulls the moon in orbit, and directs the ebb and flow of ocean waves.
Truth: Gravity spins the Earth in perfect synchrony around the sun, and creates order for our solar system.
So far, so good. Most logical-minded people can agree with these truths, because they prove the order of our solar system. Over time, the consistent patterns of celestial behaviors establish these statements to be true.
Truth: The Law of God
Truth: There is one God.
Whoa, stop. We can’t agree on this one. Society refuses to reach consensus on any patterns of behavior in our natural world to support this statement as truth.
Within our physical world, we find comfort in the law of gravity and the established cycles it produces. But in the spiritual world, we hesitate to accept the law of God. We can’t see Him, so we don’t have to accept Him as creator, ruler, and king of the universe. A measure of faith is needed to believe in spiritual truth. God is Spirit, and we may never have absolute physical proof of His existence. We are free to choose to believe or not.
The difficulty with accepting God lies deep within our souls where a tension exists between control and surrender. If we choose to believe in Him, we must acknowledge we’re not in control of our world, and submit to a greater power. Making this decision is the hardest step for any human to take.
Truth and Consequences
If we ignore the law of gravity, we can exist without consequences in most situations. However, if we ignore it and decide to jump off a cliff, we suffer the pains of landing hard on the ground below. In the same way, we can choose to ignore God all our lives and not suffer consequences, most of the time. However, when we die, we will encounter Him face to face, and the result of not believing in Him is inevitable.
We avoid consequences by preparing beforehand. We can jump off a cliff and live, if prepared for the landing, otherwise we’ll be splattered on impact. Options are available such as a parachute or safety ropes. But whatever we decide, we must have means to overcome the law of gravity.
Everyone faces the cliff of death, and the spiritual encounter with God. If we die unprepared, the penalty of ignoring God sends us spiraling down into the pits of Hell, separated forever from His love. As long as we are alive and breathing, we have the opportunity to prepare for the cliff of death. Depending on our preparation, the jump will either be into the loving arms of God or a fall into eternal doom—this is the law of God.
Psalm 14:1a The fool says in his own heart, “There is no God.”
We Have Hope
Don’t fret or fear the end of your days. We have a way to know for certain where we’ll land when we jump over the cliff of death.
God knows we don’t have the ability to adequately prepare to meet Him, so He gave us the escape. Our parachute, our safety rope is found in Jesus alone. He is the only way to eternal life—this is the law of God.
We have a choice, and God will never force us to accept His way. Since the beginning of creation, His desire has always been to be with us, forever. His passion for a personal relationship with mankind propelled God to send Jesus to suffer a horrible death on the cross and open the way for us to reach Him.
Jesus took the consequence of our sins and paid the ransom so we don’t have to fall over the cliff of death unprepared. He offers to us the free gift of forgiveness—the safety rope to eternal life. But, we have to accept Him and let Him attach to our hearts, and then we must hold on with all our might.
Choose to believe, and get connected to Jesus now. Today is the day of salvation.
