Scripture: Proverbs 21:3 “The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer Him sacrifices.”
Observation: God looks at the heart. The most important thing is the attitude within the heart. As we do ‘good works, they may be impressive to others and even to ourselves. The thing that matters most is not what we do but it is the intent of the heart that matters to God. You see, God does not get impressed with our religious rituals, our self “sacrifice”, or how big the gift is that we give. He wants our actions to be driven by our love and devotion to Him.
Application: I need to examine why I do the things that I do. Why do I go to church? Why do I teach the children? Why do I have a Bible Study in my home? Why do I…..;? Is it because these are the ‘right’ things to do as a Christian? Is it because it is the norm, the practice, the ritual? OR, is it because I really, truly love the Lord and I want to please and honor Him.
Prayer: Lord, help me to have a heart that deserves you, a heart that hungers for you, and a heart that is pure. May all that I do, may all that I say be pleasing to You. Most of all, Lord, make my heart like yours. AMEN.
