Topic: Relationship with God
Title: Finally Knowing God
Scripture: Hosea 2:19-20 “I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion. I will be faithful to you and make you mine, and you will finally know me as the Lord.” NLT
Observation: God loved the unfaithful nation of Israel and in these verses He expressed His love for his people. Throughout the book of Hosea we read about the desire of God (represented by Hosea) to have a relationship with his people. God the Father wants an intimate (all-knowing) relationship with His people desires their love and affection and their faithfulness. He wants them to finally know Him as Lord. God gave us this analogy of the marriage of Hosea and his wife Gomer, the prostitute because the marriage relationship is something we can identify with and understand.
Application: God’s love and faithfulness are the same for me as for Israel because I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Jesus gave his life for me so that I could be free from living under the power of sin and so that I can be with him forever and ever throughout eternity. He wants me to finally know Him as the Lord. God’s love is so great it is difficult for me to understand how the God of the universe longs so intently to have a personal relationship with me – His creation. If we would simply take some time today and stop long enough to receive His love for us, we would know love far greater that any on this earth. We would experience a love so amazing that it is overwhelming; believe in Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, help me to finally know and to fully grab hold of and understand the fullness of your love. Teach me more about your righteousness, your justice, your unfailing love and compassion. I want to finally know you, Lord, AMEN
